17th of December, Asbury Park (Return to Eden)
by Jim Intermaggio

The sands turned into gold today
Beneath this empty splintered pier
As clouds gave way to clearer skies
A rainbow led me here
The stars tonight shone brightly
I know they came for me
Exploding in a spectacle
That only few could see

This boardwalk came alive tonight
As music filled the air again
And with the laughter of the years gone by
It carried in the offshore wind
As Neptune thundered his applause
Against the golden sands
And I and others tried to match
With just our human hands

Return to Eden
Return to Light
The Silence ended here tonight
Though tomorrow may be dark again
I've seen the life beneath the skin
The Boards may crack and winds howl in
But I know what it is I've seen

I watched the stained and weathered wood
Return to polished grain
Abandoned streets left suffering
Relieved of all their pain
And I sat in amazement
At peace with where I'd been
And knowing this existed
And wasn't just a dream

Return to Eden
Return to Light
The Silence ended here tonight
Though tomorrow may be dark again
I've seen the life beneath the skin
The Boards may crack and winds howl in
But I know what it is I've seen

And the Poets Down Here...
