SAVE TILLIE FLOAT WINS -- AGAIN!
For the second time in three years, Save Tillie's float won honors in Asbury Park's 4th of July parade, taking second place in the community and business floats category for 2008.
Nice to be a winner, for sure, but the greatest thrill was to hear shout outs of encouragement for saving Tillie the entire length of the parade route. Save Tillie members unanimously agreed that there was more crowd support for Tillie this year than during any of the previous Independence Day parades.
Maybe next year we can convince some of the developers who seem so determined to destroy Tillie and the Bumper Car murals to ride along with us and hear the Tillie support for themselves.
A big tip of Tillie's hat to thank Dan Toskaner, Frank Saragnese, Mary Lynn Purcel, Kathy Cherry, Anne and Jeffrey Noss, Carl and Kathy Beams and Caroline Pawlowski for making the parade such a success for Team Tillie. Thanks, too, to William Sitar of the Sitar Company, for allowing us to use the Asbury Park carriage from the Palace Ferris wheel and a carousel horse on the float.
The float's previously win was a third place in 2006.
