And the Poets Down Here...

Tillie  05.08.03

A once-gleaming smile is sadly no more

In 1987 they had closed its doors

The paint slowly chips, the walls slowly crack

All we can do now is simply look back

Pictures are all that is left of this place

When neon brightly lit up Tillie's face

It now sits on a corner in Asbury Park

Palace Amusements is alone in the dark

The damage has gone too far it seems

It will soon be demolished, and with it the dreams

Dreams of those who wished and prayed

That one day the Palace would somehow be saved

It would return to its glory of days gone by

And Tillie would once again smile high

His Cheshire-cat grin welcoming in

Those who have come to visit him

Unfortunately many forget its former glory

Thus we close the chapter on this century-old story
